The following chart is used by most life insurance companies to determine minimum requirements for preferred ratings.  

There are many different ways to calculate what a person should weigh.  Most scales were developed years ago, however, these scales continue to provide pretty good guidelines for most people.  For the current official guidelines, you can visit the National Health Institue web site.

BMI is a reliable indicator of total body fat, which is related to the risk of disease and death. The score is valid for both men and women but it does have some limits. The limits are:
